thursday = embroidery

pretty quick & pretty easy way to make thrift store rubber boots pretty:

first I drew the design on with a pencil then used a punch tool {I got mine in the leather section at hobby lobby} to create the holes. not pictured is the piece of wood I slipped inside the boot when punching the holes...

after punching all the holes I just cleaned off the pencil lines & used a yarn needle to do the embroidery:

and for this week's vintage embroidery pattern I picked a cat...naturally:

you know, because of puss in boots!

happy stitching :)

I love the embroidered boot idea! So cute! I'm surprised that you found boots that even vaguely fit at a thrift store- I do stream and wetland surveys and I have trouble finding durable rubber boots in womens' sizes and I've looked at lots of stores. I probably won't embroider mine since it effectively makes the waterproof part much shorter, but I love the idea.

Lisa, I wonder if you could use some silicone caulk on the inside to restore the waterproofiness.

Oh, these are totally awesome! I like them so much better than the printed rubber boots that are readily available in stores lately.

I'd love to re-post a photo of your boots on my site and direct people to your tutorial. Let me know if you're okay with that. I'm such a huge fan of your work!

I love how you make boring old black boots into works of art.
